Proddy Tools

    Proddy Strip Cutting Tool, 9 inches, made from Cherry, $10.00 each. This is a fabulous way to cut your strips or Bits and Pieces for your Proddy mat. Simply tear or cut a long strip of wool about ½ inch wide, wrap it around the cutting tool and then using your scissors cut across the top (in the slot). Keeps all of proddy strips even. Cuts the strips about 2½ inches.

    Spring Prodder We have this tool with fine wooden handles handmade by Les Ritchie. Using this prodder you prod from the front of the pattern, $40.00. Be sure to refer to Heather and Cilla's video for use of the Proddy tools. books&.htm 

Hooks -

We carry the Ritchie Hook made by Les Ritchie of Reeth, England. This is a great hook for primitive rug hooking too.  It comes in three sizes 4mm, 6mm or 8mm. The 6 mm and 8 mm hooks are available in steel as well as brass. The 8 mm hook is great for primitive rug hooking. It opens the backing up and allows you to easily pull the loop through.  When you pull the wool through your backing it produces a more round loop because of the diameter of the shank. If you don't specify steel or brass we will ship whichever is in stock.

Barbara likes the two larger sizes; use the 6mm for cuts below 8 and the 8 mm for cuts above 8 and especially nice for hand cut strips.

I recommend you own at least two hooks with different handle shapes. It is a good idea to change hooks from time to time to reduce the possibility of carpal tunnel irritation. 

Scissors - We are pleased to have the Gingher Scissors. They truly are the best scissors and a pleasure to work with. Barbara uses them all of the time.

                   6" Appliqué scissors, $30.00

Appliqué' scissors have offset handles. This design allows comfortable hand positioning above the rug to make close and precise cutting simple while the rug is on your frame.
