And finally she is writing again!!!!!!!!! I am so excited about this rug pattern that I wanted to share it with everyone. Definitely is an unusual pattern – with a wonderful feeling of goodness and peace. My inspiration was from an early tapestry done in silks – I was so drawn by this piece of textile folk art –and thought about making a pattern that would transmit this feeling to everyone – sooooooooooooooo Vermont Christmas was born. Sue is a “regular” student of mine and because of this I can move slowly and build her rug. Sue is hooking the 41 x 101 size so lots of ways to build color. Hope you will enjoy this journey with Sue and me.

The reds and rust in this house balance what is happening in the rug on the opposite end of the rug. Sue has not put in her window “trims” yet – but that is coming. Notice the neat window wool in the house. An overall stripe, and just hooked in.

The log house is hooked using another striped wool – which allows you to have an unusual and fun log house. The three wise men are regal and striking. Love the hoods on them and the way they sort of hold them (three wise men) in place.

The red house anchors this corner and then keeps the animals in place. Love Sue’s horse, dog, duck and tree!!!!!! We are going to try to use the same wools in all of the trees and fences. We’ll see!!!!!! Also notice the chinking in the log house – NOT white!!!!!!!!!!

Notice how all of the colors are sprinkled throughout the rug. Lots of deep and gorgeous wools are being used to help keep this a spectacular rug.

We have chosen some of her background wools and those will be in the next photos. Hook faster Sue!!!!!!

Well Sue is “hooking right along”!!!!!!! Her background is capturing and containing the shapes and movement of the house and animals. Very soft and playful. I don’t know who is having more fun – Sue or me?????????? Notice how Sue is using a touch darker wools to create shadows and shapes in the background – almost looks as if the duck is in a pond!!!!!

Way to go Sue!!!!!!!

Sue is “hooking along” and has loved adding the birds and the dog. Note the red tree, with the blue bird and then the “funky” dog. Playful and really a “no rules” rug – with great places to use your “wiggles”. Note the windows on the left side of the house. Sue used a neat stripe for them..

These birds and the dog are so large that they needed several layers of wools to give them depth – and not just lay flat. The dog is a hoot – green with gold dots!!!!! Big time fun. Notice the movement of the background which adds so much depth to this rug.

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>
</o:OfficeDocumentSettings>

Notice the wonderful bird sitting in the rust tree branch – whimsical and neat – the dog to the right is on the “alert” – I don’t think he is sure what for!!!!!!!!

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>

Hooked by Sue McCann of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. And so Sue’s rug is finished. Has this not been a fun project to watch??????? Congratulations to Sue – and if you have any questions – just ask and we will get back to you.

Dear Barb,

I just want to update you on the rug for Clarke House in Chicago. I presented it to the Colonial Dames of Illinois a week or so ago. They were absolutely thrilled!!! We went to the room to place it by the bed in the girl’s bedroom and the whole room came to life. It really made it look like someone was living there.

It was both gratifying and a little sad to see my rug leave my possession. I am happy to say that as a docent for the House, I can visit it any time I like.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours,

Roberta Siegel
